A Message From the NCAE President:
Colleagues,
We want to thank the NCAE Canvassing Committee for the meticulous and
precise work that was conducted this weekend. The Committee opened the sealed
packages that contained the tally sheets that were submitted by the leaders of
the NCAE local associations. The voting by individual members took place
earlier and the results were mailed to the NCAE Center by certified mail on or
before April 10.
Chairperson Leona Brewer of Union County reports the canvassing process went
smoothly and that the members of the committee finished their work much
earlier than expected.
Based on the canvassing process, which calls for triple checking of the
tabulations, the following results are being reported by the Canvassing Committee:
Running unopposed, Sheri Strickland of Pitt County has been elected to serve
as the next NCAE President. Strickland will assume the top association
office on July 1, 2008 and will serve a two- year term.

term as NEA Director. Martin was unopposed and will begin her new NEA term
on September 1, 2008. She will continue to serve as the Senior NEA Director
for North Carolina. Serving with Susan at the NEA level will be Melissa
Bartlett, Dawn Shephard Pope, Agnes Chavis, and John Lucas.
In the two contested races for seats on the NCAE Board of Directors, Kim
Hargett of Union County defeated Wayne Webb of Richmond County for the District
5-A position and Barbara Davis of Vance County defeated Julius Webb of
Halifax County for the District 7-A position. Kim Hargett and Barbara Davis will

Teacher Working Conditions Survey
This survey is so important to each educator, school, and local school system. It will be your opportunity to shape local and statewide education policies for the next two years. Every educator who takes a few minutes out of their day plays a vital role in the future of our children and public education. Don't forget - you could be an individual winner of $1,000 or your school could win if your school reaches 100% participation. Take the survey now!!! Make a difference for children and yourself. J. Glenn Edwards leads our county right now (April 8) with 86% completion. Every staff member needs to step up to the plate and make a difference.
Scholar's Day
Scholar's Day was a huge success. Thank you to all of those who helped reward the 185 scholars in our county. The Deep River Rivertones performed under the direction of Kim Brown and wowed the audience. Eddie Davis, NCAE President, was the guest speaker and challenged the students to reach out to others by sharing smiles and writing thank you notes. Congratulations to the scholars!!! We are very proud of your many accomplishments.
